Chelsea have reportedly identified Jules Koundé as their primary defensive target for the summer transfer window.

The club is looking to strengthen its backline with a player capable of operating both as a centre-back and a full-back, and Koundé fits that profile perfectly.

The upcoming transfer window is expected to be one of the most crucial under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Chelsea are planning a major squad overhaul, with reports suggesting that as many as seven or eight players could be offloaded to fund new signings. The club’s priorities include acquiring a striker, a centre-back, and a right-footed attacker.

Defensive changes are already underway, with Axel Disasi likely to depart and Trevoh Chalobah also expected to be sold. While Chelsea had previously been linked with Spain international Dean Huijsen, it appears they are no longer in the race for his signature. Instead, former academy player Marc Guéhi has emerged as a key target.

Despite this, Spanish outlet Sport claims that Chelsea remain focused on securing Koundé, whom they nearly signed in 2022 under Thomas Tuchel. With Barcelona open to potential sales to balance their finances, Chelsea could see an opportunity to finally bring the French defender to Stamford Bridge.
