Chelsea owners admit Tuchel’s sack was a mistake

Chelsea owners led by American billionaire Todd Boehly have admitted they made a mistake by sacking Thomas Tuchel last September, according to the Daily Mail.

Recall that Tuchel was sacked after only a few games this season by co-owners Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

After Tuchel’s sack, Chelsea immediately, brought in Graham Potter from Premier League rivals Brighton.

Potter was also sacked after seven months in charge.

While the relationship with Tuchel was never going to work long-term, in retrospect, it is accepted that it might have been better to retain the German coach for a season for a more orderly transition.

According to the reports, the Americans also feel they overcompensated in appointing Potter because he was so adept at working with the executives and owners.

After Potter’s sack, Chelsea went on to bring in Frank Lampard as interim manager of the club, while a deal has now been agreed with former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino to become the new permanent boss.
