Chelsea on High Alert as Striker Search Intensifies Ahead of Summer Window

Chelsea’s need for a proven striker has become increasingly evident following last summer’s transfer window, where they failed to secure Victor Osimhen or Ivan Toney.

Despite initial optimism from Enzo Maresca, who suggested Christopher Nkunku could fill the role, it quickly became clear that Chelsea lacked a true No.9.

The club entered the season with Nicolas Jackson as their only senior striker, leaving them vulnerable in attack. Nkunku, while talented, has never been a traditional centre-forward, and Maresca soon adjusted his stance. Meanwhile, Marc Guiu, signed as an 18-year-old prospect from Barcelona, was always considered a long-term investment rather than an immediate solution.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s reliance on Jackson became apparent. Nkunku’s injury and Armando Broja’s ongoing fitness struggles left the team short of reliable attacking options.

By the time the transfer window closed, frustration had already set in among fans, with many questioning the club’s strategy.

As Chelsea now prepares for a busy summer window, the pursuit of a top striker remains a priority. Osimhen continues to be linked with a move, while Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres has emerged as another target. The club will need to act decisively to avoid a repeat of last season’s shortcomings.
