Chelsea Make Transfer Decision on Dortmund Winger as Deal Progresses

Chelsea are reportedly ready to meet Borussia Dortmund’s £55.3 million asking price for highly rated winger Jamie Gittens, marking a shift in their transfer stance as they look to strengthen their attacking options.

Enzo Maresca’s side are actively targeting a right-footed left-winger following the decision not to pursue a permanent move for Jadon Sancho. The Blues opted to pay Manchester United a £5 million fee to cancel their £25 million purchase obligation for Sancho, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Stamford Bridge.

With limited depth on the left flank, Chelsea have turned their attention to 20-year-old Gittens, who has emerged as one of their key targets for the summer. Earlier this month, the West London club tabled an initial £42 million bid for the England U21 international. However, Borussia Dortmund rejected the offer, opting to keep the talented youngster in their squad for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite that setback, Chelsea have not backed down. Sources now indicate that the club is prepared to meet Dortmund’s full £55.3 million valuation to get the deal over the line. Gittens, known for his pace, flair, and ability to cut inside from the left, is viewed as an ideal fit for Maresca’s system and Chelsea’s long-term plans.

With talks progressing and Chelsea showing a willingness to match Dortmund’s demands, Gittens could become the next major arrival at Stamford Bridge as the club continues to reshape its squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
