Chelsea Get Green Light to Sign Jamie Gittens

Chelsea have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, as new head coach Enzo Maresca looks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new season.

The 20-year-old England U21 international has been on Chelsea’s radar for several months, with the club initially targeting him before the FIFA Club World Cup.

Despite strong interest, negotiations could not be finalised in time, and Gittens remained with Dortmund, where he was included in their squad for the tournament held in the United States.

Gittens featured briefly in Dortmund’s opening match against Fluminense, coming on for the final 15 minutes in a game that ended in a goalless draw. However, he did not feature in their second fixture — a thrilling 4-3 win over South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns — remaining an unused substitute.

His limited involvement in the tournament has reignited speculation over his future, with Chelsea now reportedly given the green light to proceed with a potential £50 million transfer. Maresca, appointed earlier this summer, is eager to add pace and creativity to his forward line, and Gittens is considered a key target.

The young winger, who had a stint at Chelsea as a youth player before moving to Dortmund in 2020, has made over 100 senior appearances for the Bundesliga side and is viewed as one of England’s most promising attacking prospects.

Chelsea are now expected to resume talks with Dortmund in the coming days as the transfer window progresses.
