Chelsea Eye €50m Ajax Starlet Jorrel Hato, Perfect Fit for Maresca’s System

According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Chelsea are “seriously considering making a move” for Ajax’s highly-rated defender Jorrel Hato this summer.
The 19-year-old, who can operate both as a central defender and a left-back, has been turning heads with his exceptional physical attributes, technical ability, and maturity beyond his years.
With over a season of senior experience already under his belt, Hato represents the type of versatile and intelligent player Chelsea’s recruitment team are eager to secure for the long term.
Hato was first linked with the Blues in January, when reports suggested a valuation between €40 million and €50 million.
While Solhekol has not confirmed a fee in his latest update, he notes that Chelsea are actively “admiring” and “monitoring” the Dutch international. Competition for his signature is expected to be fierce, with both Liverpool and Arsenal reportedly in pursuit, though Chelsea may currently hold the edge.
One of the key attractions for Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is Hato’s suitability to his tactical system. Unlike some of the other defensive targets such as Marc Guehi and Dean Huijsen, Hato offers greater positional flexibility and comfort on the ball—qualities that align well with Maresca’s style of building from the back.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Chelsea look poised to accelerate their efforts to land one of Europe’s brightest young defensive talents.
