Chelsea Eye Double Transfer Move for Maignan and Gittens as Maresca Prepares Summer Overhaul

Chelsea could make significant progress in the transfer market this weekend, with the club pursuing deals for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.

Head coach Enzo Maresca is eager to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2025/26 season, and both players remain high on Chelsea’s shortlist.

The Blues were keen to secure both signings ahead of the Club World Cup, but time constraints prevented the deals from being completed. According to football.london, Chelsea submitted an offer of around £13 million for Maignan earlier this month. However, Milan rejected the bid, valuing the French international closer to £20 million.

With Maignan now in the final year of his contract, Milan face mounting pressure to make a decision: either secure an extension or sell the 29-year-old this summer to avoid losing him for free in 2026. Chelsea are expected to return with an improved offer if negotiations remain open.

Meanwhile, talks continue over Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, with Chelsea still pursuing a deal after their £42 million bid was turned down by Dortmund. The England U21 international has already agreed personal terms with the Blues, and a fresh offer is reportedly being prepared.

Maresca is targeting a mix of experience and youth in his rebuild, and landing both Maignan and Gittens would represent a major boost to Chelsea’s ambitions both domestically and in Europe next season.
