Chelsea could splash £110m for Napoli forward
Chelsea manager Graham Potter has issued a warning to the club’s hierarchy against signing another striker, as he said that it would not solve the club’s goalscoring problems.
However, despite Potter’s warning, the Blues’ hierarchy are said to be working on a transfer record deal to sign a striker in the summer.
Potter stressed that a new forward does not guarantee goals, as he cited Romelu Lukaku as an example.
A report via The Sun reports that Chelsea will continue their massive spending in the next summer window and have identified Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as their target.
While Chelsea have already signed RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku, they, however, also want a proven goalscorer to lead the line.
The Sun’s report added the West London side will need to spend in excess of £110m, which could be another record deal breaker.
Potter in a statement after the Blues’ weekend game against Fulham spoke about Lukaku’s disastrous move to Stamford Bridge.
“I think we need to improve as a team. If you look back 18 months, from the outside Chelsea wasn’t scoring and they thought they’d spent close to £100million on a centre-forward [Lukaku] and that would fix all their problems, and it didn’t,” Potter told reporters.
“You have to attack better as a team and that’s our challenge – that’s what we need to do.”
