Chelsea close to signing new defender from Brighton
Chelsea are close to welcoming a second defender to their squad this summer in the person of Marc Cucurella from Brighton.
The Blues opted for Cucurella after they were unable to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla as the French defender opted to join Spanish club Barcelona instead.
According to the report, Chelsea and Brighton, as well as the player, have reached a full agreement and all that is expected is for him to undergo his medicals at the west London side.
Popular transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed that the Blues have kicked out Manchester City in the race to sign the Spaniard with personal terms already agreed.
Romano added that the Blues will pay more than £50 million for his services.
Chelsea will consider a swap deal for Cucurella in order to beat down the transfer price.
The report disclosed that the Blues defender Levi Colwill is expected to go the other way as part of the deal.
Until Colwill’s move to Brighton is certain, Chelsea will not get the opportunity to sign Cucurella.
