Chelsea Close to Signing Jamie Gittens from Dortmund

According to The Athletic’s latest Deal Sheet, Chelsea are edging closer to completing a deal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, with talks said to be progressing well.

Respected journalist David Ornstein reports that the situation could be “resolved imminently,” and that a transfer may be finalised “swiftly” if negotiations continue at their current pace.

Chelsea had already agreed personal terms with the 20-year-old talent prior to the start of the FIFA Club World Cup. The clubs were reportedly not far apart on the transfer fee, but the onset of the tournament slowed discussions, as both sides turned their focus to the competition.

However, Ornstein now reveals that talks have resumed in the United States, where both Chelsea and Dortmund are currently competing. The timing and shared location have helped facilitate discussions between the two clubs.

Importantly, Gittens is said to be fully on board with the proposed move and remains enthusiastic about joining Enzo Maresca’s project at Stamford Bridge. Despite the ongoing negotiations, the young winger has continued to feature for Dortmund during the Club World Cup, making appearances off the bench and demonstrating professionalism amid the transfer speculation.

If all goes to plan, Chelsea could secure the signing in the coming days, adding another exciting attacking option to their squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. The move reflects Chelsea’s continued focus on acquiring emerging talent with long-term potential.
