Chelsea add Alonso to deal for De Jong
Chelsea are ready to go the extra length to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.
This comes as Sport reports that the Blues have offered €70 million (£59m) plus defender, Marcos Alonso for De Jong.
The Catalans are ready to sell De Jong before the summer transfer window closes, in order to improve its finances.
It is no longer news that Barcelona need to trim their wage bill after being told by La Liga that they can’t register their new summer signings, including Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie.
De Jong on the other hand has insisted that he wants to remain at Camp Nou for another season.
Aside from Chelsea, Manchester United have been in the race for De Jong all summer, but despite agreeing to an €85 million (£71.7m) deal with Barcelona, the midfielder doesn’t want to play at Old Trafford.
There are claims he favours a move to Chelsea as they can offer Champions League football.
Chelsea have now submitted a bid of €70m (£59m) including Alonso for the Netherlands midfielder and they are ‘convinced’ that the Catalans will accept their proposal.
All the Blues need to do is to reach a personal agreement with De Jong.
