Carabao Cup: Man City injury worry vs Chelsea
Manchester City could be without their summed star player Erling Haaland when they take on Chelsea in the Carabao League this evening as their manager Pep Guardiola confirmed the forward has ligament damage.
The injury also means Haaland could miss Man City’s remaining fixtures before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Recall that Haaland sustained a foot injury during Man City’s 0-0 draw against Borussia Dortmund in October and was forced to miss the games against Sevilla and Leicester.
However, he scored the winning goal on his return against Fulham at the Etihad on Saturday.
While Haaland played in City’s most recent fixture, Guardiola says he is still nursing his foot complaint and faces a fitness test, ahead of fixtures against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
“He’s not perfect – it [the injury] is still not perfect,” Guardiola told reporters on Tuesday.
“We’ll see [if he’s available] tomorrow, next Saturday – but he’s getting better. It’s important the bone is not broken – there’s no damage. It’s just ligament damage a little bit, so it’s not perfect right now. But in one week, 10 days everything can happen. It can change.”
So far this season, Haaland has already scored 18 goals in just 12 Premier League appearances for Man City.
