Brazil rated No.1 on FIFA ranking despite Argentina’s World Cup win

Despite Argentina’s recent world cup win, they have not been named the number one team in the FIFA rankings this month.

Instead South American country Brazil, which have held the top spot since February were named number one.

In this year’s world cup, Brazil failed to make it past the quarter-finals in Qatar as they won three matches at the tournament, lost to Cameroon and were eliminated following a penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Croatia.

On the other hand, Argentina lifted this year’s World Cup and had won the Copa America in 2021 but it seems not enough for them to be rated number one.

Had one of Argentina or France won the final match within 120 minutes, they would have been named No. 1, but the game extended into a penalty shootout.

Argentina and France are second and third, respectively on the FIFA ranking.
