Best goalkeeper in the world: Why Chelsea should have signed Italian star

Former Chelsea star Obi Mikel has shared his opinion about the club’s moves in the recently concluded summer transfer window.

According to Mikel, the Blues should have signed goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma for manager Enzo Maresca this summer.

Mikel described the Italian international as the best goalkeeper in the world at the moment.

Recall that Donnarumma joined Pep Guardiola’s Man City this summer transfer window from French side Paris Saints Germain.

Speaking on his Obi One Podcast, the former Blues midfielder felt the West London side could have gone signed a top goalkeeper this summer.

“There was a certain goalkeeper that was available in the market, the best goalkeeper in the world: Donnarumma. He could’ve just gone out and got him for £26million,” he said.

Mikel stated that he didn’t understand why the Blues didn’t go out and get him, despite being among the best goalkeepers in the world right now.

He, however, added that he supports Enzo Maresca’s choose of Robert Sanchez, since the manager is comfortable with him behind the goalpost.

Aside from Sanchez, Chelsea also have Filip Jorgensen as their man in the goalpost.

Recall that the Blues parted ways with Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer when they sold him to Arsenal permanently.
