Bargain £45m Left Back Milos Kerkez: Wonderful Talent, But Chelsea May Not Be the Right Fit

During a recent episode of the Gab and Juls show on ESPN, the conversation turned to transfer rumours surrounding Milos Kerkez, a promising left back currently at Bournemouth.

Although Chelsea have been reportedly tracking the young star as recently as a month ago, some argue that the £45 million asking price might still represent a bargain deal. Gabriele Marcotti remarked on the matter, stating, “Bournemouth have reportedly named their price for Milos Kerkez, and it’s £45m. This sounds like a bargain to me.”

Julien Laurens compared this valuation to fees paid for players such as Ferland Mendy, Malo Gusto, and Jurrien Timber, suggesting it is good value for a player with proven credentials in the Premier League.

Laurens expressed his admiration for Kerkez, noting, “I think he’s a wonderful talent. I think he’s been the best left back in the country alongside Antonee Robinson, and probably even better in terms of consistency. So Kerkez, I think, makes a lot of sense. At £45m, you invest in him and you’re better for it.”

Interestingly, Laurens did not include Marc Cucurella among the top left backs—a choice that might surprise many.

While there is no doubt that Kerkez would be an excellent signing for the right club, it appears he may not be the ideal target for Chelsea at this time.

The debate continues, underscoring the complexities of transfer decisions in modern football. Ultimately, while Kerkez’s £45m price appears attractive for clubs seeking youth and consistency, Chelsea may hesitate due to concerns over squad balance and long-term strategic fit in football.
