Barcelona more confident about signing this Chelsea defender

Spanish club Barcelona are reportedly confident of signing Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta on a free transfer.

It is no longer news that Azpilicueta is on his way out of Stamford Bridge as he is currently in his final six months of his current deal with the Blues.

Since the beginning of January, the defender has been free to enter negotiations with foreign clubs over a pre-contract agreement.

While the veteran defender is keen on remaining Stamford Bridge, it is uncertain the Blues will hand him a new deal owing to his age.

However, Goal reports that Azpilicueta and Chelsea are now ‘at odds’ over a new deal, and Barcelona are confident of securing his signature for the 2022-23 season.

The report added that the Catalans would be willing to offer him more than the one-year renewal, which the Blues are not ready to hand him the same deal.

So far, since Azpilicueta joined Chelsea from Marseille, he has scored 14 goals and 56 assists in 456 appearances in all competitions. He has won two Premier Leagues, the Champions League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League with West London club.
