Ballon d’Or 2021: Ronaldo finishes at number 6

Portugal international and Man Utd striker Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t have an impressive outing in this year’s Ballon d’Or as he was dropped out of the top five players for the award this time around.

According to the details provided during the event, in the top 10 players, Ronaldo is at the sixth spot only ahead of the likes of Kylian Mbappe (9th, PSG), Kevin de Bruyne (8th, Manchester City), Mohammed Salah (7th, Liverpool) and Gigi Donnarumma (10th, PSG).

While most football stars stormed the event at Paris, France, on Monday night, Ronaldo stayed away.

Also, before the ceremony started, Ronaldo lashed out at France Football’s Pascal Ferre over his recent comments.

Ferre, in a statement last week, claimed Ronaldo had told him his “only ambition” was to “retire with more Ballon d’Or than Messi”.

However, the Portugal captain, in an Instagram post shortly before the Ballon d’Or ceremony, accused Ferre of lying.

It is uncertain Ronaldo will be able to match up with Messi when it comes to the Ballon d’Or any more.

This is because the Argentina star now has seven Ballon d’Or, the highest in history, while Ronaldo has five.
