Arteta happy with former Chelsea star at Arsenal
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in a recent comment refused to speak up on Jorginho’s future at Arsenal.
Arteta, however, revealed he is happy with Jorginho’s contribution to the Gunners’ squad so far.
Recall that Jorgunho was signed from Chelsea in the January 2023 window to provide cover to Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka after Mohamed Elneny suffered a season-ending knee injury.
The Italian midfielder has played a limited role in the 2023-24 season due to the additions of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.
Jorginho has played just five Premier League starts this season.
Speaking to reporters London derby with West Ham United, Arteta was asked about Jorginho’s future, but he avoided answering the question directly.
He instead chose to speak on the experienced midfielder’s on-field qualities.
“I’m really happy with him, that’s all I can say. When we imagined what he could bring to the team and how we could make us better, he’s doing exactly that or even better,” Arteta said at his press conference.
“The contract situation is for Edu and the board to manage. But his application, and the capacity he has in the big matches to affect the game is tremendous and he was really good against Liverpool again.”
