Arsenal Turn Attention to £85m Bundesliga Forward Amid Frustration in Striker Search

Arsenal have reportedly intensified their interest in Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, as growing setbacks in their pursuit of top striker targets push the club to explore alternative options.
The Gunners’ urgency to secure an out-and-out No. 9 has increased this summer, following criticism over a lack of attacking reinforcements in recent transfer windows.
Injuries to both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus last season exposed Arsenal’s limited depth up front, ultimately hindering their title challenge. As a result, pressure has mounted on sporting director Andrea Berta to deliver a reliable and prolific centre-forward ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Viktor Gyökeres remains Arsenal’s first-choice striker following an extraordinary season at Sporting CP, where he netted 54 goals in 52 appearances. However, Sporting’s refusal to negotiate below his £85 million release clause has stalled any progress, despite Arsenal’s ongoing interest.
Benjamin Šeško of RB Leipzig emerged as a strong alternative, but negotiations have proven equally difficult. With little movement on either front, Arsenal have now turned their attention to Ekitike, a highly rated forward also linked with Liverpool and Chelsea.
The 22-year-old Frenchman, who impressed during loan spells and has drawn interest from top Premier League clubs, is seen as a dynamic option who fits Mikel Arteta’s tactical system.
Though not Arsenal’s original priority, Ekitike is being seriously considered as a more attainable solution in what has become a complex transfer window.
Arsenal’s final decision will depend on ongoing negotiations, but the club’s intent to sign a new striker before the season starts remains clear.
