Arsenal and Chelsea Monitoring €70m Playmaker as Summer Deal Nears

A potential transfer battle may be brewing in the Premier League as renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that both Arsenal and Chelsea are closely monitoring a creative midfielder valued at around €70 million.
The player, whose name remains undisclosed, is understood to have informed his current club of his desire to leave as early as May.
Recent developments suggest the transfer fee could be negotiated to under £60 million, prompting serious interest from two of England’s top-spending clubs. Arsenal, while active in the current transfer window, have yet to bring in a natural playmaker—something manager Mikel Arteta is believed to be prioritising following Martin Ødegaard’s inconsistent form last season.
The Gunners have already secured the signings of Martin Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Noni Madueke, with Sporting Director Andrea Berta receiving praise for his swift and strategic recruitment. Still, the search for midfield creativity continues. Arsenal were previously linked to Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, with reports indicating his release clause stands at approximately £67 million.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have also been busy reinforcing their attack, adding several new names to their squad. Yet, their interest in an additional creative force remains strong, particularly as they aim to provide more depth and vision in the final third.
With both clubs “aware” and the deal “expected to develop soon,” a new twist in this transfer saga may be just around the corner.
