Why Ozil is not a part of Arteta’s plan at Arsenal

Germany international, Mesut Ozil has not started for Arsenal since the lockdown was lifted. While his absence at the midfield is missed by the team, they have however continue to play without him.

Arsenal lacks a creative midfielder like Ozil and it has seen them become the team with the fourth lowest chance creation rate in the Premier League ahead of Burnley, Sheffield United and West Brom.

Arteta when speaking on Ozil’s absence from his squad usually state that the decision is tactical.

However, in a latest statement, the Gunners manager opened up further on what is really going on.

“For me the way we occupy space and who is going to move in there is more important than the formation” he said to DAZN when asked about the style he wants his team to play.

“And from there we have some very similar players that are not used to play in those positions so we have to keep changing the formation a little bit.

“We want to move to a 4-3-3 but for that you need a lot of specificity in every position but now in 5/6 positions we don’t have it.

“The aggressiveness, the effectiveness, the amount of steals we make in opposition half I think we have been very steady against some big clubs.”

The latest explanation from Arteta has cleared some issues and it seems Ozil may not be able to adapt to the new 4-3-3 style popular with Man City and Liverpool.

Ozil who happens to be one of the top midfielders in the world in the 2010s is used to the 4-2-3-1 pattern.

It looks like the German midfielder will have to move elsewhere to get playing chances.
