Raya faces criticisms following error in Arsenal’s win against Brentford
Former Arsenal star Ian Wright has reacted to the club’s performance against Brentford in their first game of the year on Wednesday.
Wright in his statement singled out goalkeeper David Raya for criticisms as he pointed at the goalie’s ‘lack of concentration’ in the Gunners’ Premier League win against Brentford.
During Arsenal’s 3-1 Premier League win over Brentford, one of the hight from the match was the moment Raya narrowly avoid committing error.
The game saw Manager Mikel Arteta’s squad falling 1-0 behind against the hosts.
However, the Gunners were able to turn the match around thanks to three goals thanks to efforts Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Merino, and Gabriel Martinelli.
The match would have end badly for the Gunners as Raya almost gifted Brentford a second goal before Jesus’ equaliser.
The Spain star somehow let Brentford’s Keane Lewis-Potter’s shot slip through his fingers, with the ball bouncing agonisingly towards goal.
But he reacted quickly, leaping back to get the ball off the goal line in dramatic fashion.
Wright, in a statement via Premier League Productions, while reacting to the incident pointed out Raya’s lack of concentration.
“He does brilliantly to recover. You can see the desperation from him. You can see how close it was,” he said.
According to Wright, Raya’s error would have been disastrous for the Gunners, especially with the way they dominated the match.
