Manchester United Make Ollie Watkins a Top Transfer Priority: Report

Manchester United have reportedly identified Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins as their leading transfer target this summer, with fresh details emerging about the club’s plans.

Watkins, 29, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks. It’s believed Villa manager Unai Emery may be open to selling the England international, provided the right offer is made.

United’s pursuit of a new striker has intensified as INEOS, the club’s owners, continue their search for an experienced forward to spearhead Ruben Amorim’s attack next season. Their initial focus on younger targets appears to have shifted following disappointing seasons from Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

With Amorim aiming to bring in proven Premier League performers, Watkins fits the profile perfectly. The striker enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 campaign and has consistently delivered at the top level. United have already signed Matheus Cunha this summer and remain interested in Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, further signalling their desire for players with established Premier League credentials.

Reports suggest Watkins’ arrival may hinge on Højlund’s future, with United potentially needing to offload the Danish striker to facilitate the move.

According to The Mirror, interest in other targets—such as Viktor Gyokeres—has cooled, as the Swedish striker appears to favour a move elsewhere.

With Amorim reshaping United’s forward line, the coming weeks could be decisive as the club pushes to secure Watkins’ signature and bolster their attacking options.
