Manchester City sweating over the fitness of key player ahead of Arsenal clash
Pep Guardiola has been put in another selection headache as he’s sweating over the fitness of striker Gabriel Jesus ahead of Tuesday evening’s Carabao Cup quarter-final with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Manchester City got their season back on track with a hard fought victory over Southampton on Saturday but had to do without the Brazilian who has been their first choice striker ever since the season began.
Gabriel Jesus suffered an injury during their draw against West Brom at the Ethad Stadium and was expected to be fit in time for the clash against Arsenal who are also going through a difficult time.
The Brazilian absence means Pep Guardiola will have to rely on Ferran Torres or Sterling to lead the attack against Arsenal.
Aymeric Laporte could also return to centre-back alongside Nathan Ake who has failed to cement a place in the lineup after his move from Bournemouth in the summer.
The Frenchman is being assessed and his return will see Ruben Dias or John Stones being rested as those two seems to have formed a formidable force.
Elsewhere, centre-back Aymeric Laporte could return to the squad after playing no part in their last three matches. He is understood to be being assessed and could also return, with John Stones and Ruben Dias, who have struck a solid partnership in recent weeks likely to be rested
Manchester City defeated Championship side AFC Bournemouth, winning 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, and defeated Burnley 3-0 at Turf Moot to secure a place at the quarter final.
