He doesn’t know football: Man Utd defender berated

Former Arsenal star, Martin Keown, has shared his take about Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt’s performance so far at Old Trafford.

According to Keown, the former Juventus defender doesn’t have positional awareness and does not know the game of football.

Recall that De Ligt signed for Manchester United from German club Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window in a deal worth €50 million.

Before his arrival at Old Trafford, several pundit had shared how the defender  failed to impress at Juventus and Bayern Munich.

And he has proven their words to be true as he has so far struggled to boost Man Utd’s defence..

The Red Devils played out a 3-3 draw against Porto in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday and were recently held to a goalless draw by Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Keown opined that De Ligt will not shine at Old Trafford unless Ten Hag plays a back three.

The Englishman told talkSPORT that De Light is a great athlete, he doesn’t really know the game and doesn’t know where to be.

He suggested that Ten Hag combines the Dutchman with Martinez and Harry Maguire and hopefully he could get the best out of him.
