Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City are well placed to mount a strong push for silverware as several injured players edge closer to returning to action.

While Guardiola admitted he would prefer to be comfortably clear at the top, he insisted the current position leaves City firmly in contention. “I’d love to be 10 points ahead of everyone, but that’s not the reality,” Guardiola said. “Arsenal are doing very well, but we are still there. It’s only the end of December and everything is still to play for.”

They currently sit fourth, five points behind Arsenal, but are still on course to secure automatic qualification for the round of 16 by finishing inside the top eight.
