Former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has retired from active football with the reports linking him back to the North London side.

According to the reports via the Athletic Arsenal are set to hire Wilshere as former Under-18 coach Dan Micciche’s successor.

He is coming to the club as a replacement for Kevin Betsy, who left the role as Under-23 manager to join Crawley Town, with U23 assistant Mehmet Ali set to be promoted to head coach of that side.

Wilshere would be coming back to the same academy where he graduated as a 16-year-old to make his senior debut back in 2008.

Wilshere had on Friday announced his retirement from professional football at the age of just 30.

As of last year, the former England international was training with Arsenal and earning his coaching badges last year, before he made moves to Danish side AGF.

A few weeks after the report tipped him for a role at Arsenal, he has finally hung up his boots after a career filled with numerous injuries.
