Arteta drops transfer update about Gyokeres

It is no longer news that Arsenal are interested signing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon in the summer transfer window.

As many await Arsenal’s announcement confirming their contract with Gyokeres, the Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that a deal for the striker is close.

With Gyokeres desperate to return to England, Arsenal will have to spend £63m to secure the deal,the Portuguese champions are determined to ensure the add-ons are easily achievable.

Arteta when asked about the transfer after Arsenal landed in Singapore for a preseason tour dropped a hint about the North London club working on the deal for Gyokeres.

He replied: “I cannot comment on any player who is not part of our group yet.”

On new signings joining the squad in Asia, Arteta added: “There’s a still time in the window. In terms of numbers we are short.”

Meanwhile Arsenal have signed four players so far this summer including Martín Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga, who are all part of the 30-man squad who travelled to Asia.

Noni Madueke who the Gunners signed for £52 million ($70m) has been given a break following his involvement with Chelsea at the Club World Cup.
