Arsenal Ready to End Viktor Gyokeres Pursuit After Failed Lisbon Talks – Sesko Option Re-Emerges

Arsenal are reportedly ready to walk away from their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres after failing to reach an agreement during face-to-face negotiations in Portugal.

Gyokeres has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards following a prolific spell in Lisbon. Since joining Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, the Swedish international has scored an incredible 97 goals and provided 28 assists in just 102 appearances across all competitions, attracting interest from several top European clubs.

However, Sporting remain firm in their valuation of the 26-year-old. According to reports from Portuguese outlet A Bola, relayed by The Mirror, Arsenal sent a delegation, including sporting director Andrea Berta, to Lisbon in an attempt to finalise a deal. Despite those efforts, talks ended without an agreement.

Sporting are reportedly demanding at least £60 million upfront, plus an additional £9 million in performance-related add-ons, a figure that Arsenal are reluctant to meet. The Gunners are mindful of their summer budget, having already spent significantly on other targets.

With negotiations now at an impasse, Arsenal are believed to be reconsidering a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian forward was previously on Arsenal’s shortlist before talks shifted toward Gyokeres.

As Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season, Arsenal may now turn their attention back to Sesko or explore alternative options in the market.
