Amorim Confirms Mainoo Set for Weeks Out as Injury Concerns Mount at Manchester United
Manchester United have suffered another setback, with head coach Ruben Amorim providing an update on Kobbie Mainoo’s injury that is likely to disrupt the club’s short-term plans.
The highly rated midfielder was a notable absentee from United’s squad for their Premier League trip to Aston Villa, raising concerns ahead of kick-off. It was later confirmed that Mainoo sustained a calf injury during training, an issue that required medical assessment shortly afterwards. Amorim revealed that while the problem is not considered serious, the England international is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.
United endured a frustrating afternoon at Villa Park, falling to a 2–1 defeat. Morgan Rogers struck twice for the hosts, while Matheus Cunha’s composed finish proved to be a rare positive moment for the visitors. The result compounded an already difficult day for Amorim, who also lost captain Bruno Fernandes to injury in the first half. Fernandes was forced off before the interval and replaced by Lisandro Martínez, adding to United’s growing list of concerns.
With Fernandes potentially facing a spell on the sidelines, Mainoo’s absence becomes even more significant. The teenager has been a key presence in midfield this season, valued for his composure, work rate and tactical intelligence despite his young age.
Speaking after the match, Amorim confirmed that Mainoo will miss United’s Boxing Day clash with Newcastle, stressing that caution will be taken with his recovery. While the manager remains optimistic that the midfielder will return soon, the timing of the injury is far from ideal, leaving United stretched as they navigate a demanding festive schedule.
