Man Utd criticised for ending Ferguson’s deal

Aside from Rio Ferdinand, another former Manchester United star in person of Eric Cantona has reacted to the club’s decision to part ways with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Cantona in a statement slammed the club for terminating Ferguson’s contract as a club ambassador.

Recall that Ferguson was Man United’s manager for 26 years at Old Trafford as the 82-year-old won 38 trophies during his reign before his retirement in 2013.

Following his retirement, the Scotsman was retained at Man United as a global ambassador, for which he was paid £2 million a year, as well as a club director.

However, in a bid to cut down cost at Man Utd,  a move led by INEOS showed the Premier League club have terminated Ferguson’s ambassador deal, with payments due to end next year.

Reacting to the development via his Instagram page, Cantona shared a picture of himself alongside Ferguson with the caption: “Sir Alex Ferguson should be able to do anything he wants at the club until the day he dies.”

Cantona added that Ferguson remains his boss for life, while describing Man Utd’s action as disrespectful and scandalous.

Reports added that the Red Devils have also cut down on their staff strength.
